چکیده

Analytic expressions for distance–redshift relations which have been corrected for the effects of inhomogeneities in the Friedmann-Lemâ itre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) mass density are given in terms of Heun functions and are used to illustrate the significance of inhomogeneities on a determination of the mass parameter Ω m and the cosmological constant Λ. The values of these parameters inferred from a given set of observations depend on the fractional amount of matter in inhomogeneities and can significantly differ from those obtained by using the standard magnitude-redshift (m-z) result for pure dust FLRW models. As an example a determination of Ω m made by applying the homogeneous distance–redshift relation to SN 1997ap at z = 0.83 could be as much as 50% lower than its true value. Inhomogeneities and the Intergalactic Distance-Redshift Relation

Abstract. Modifications in Friedmann-Lemâitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) Hubble diagrams caused by mass density inhomogeneities are used to illustrate possible effects on a determination of the mass parameter Ωm and the cosmological constant Λ. The values of these parameters inferred from a given set of observations depend on the fractional amount of matter in inhomogeneities and can differ from t...

Observational constraints on phantom-like braneworld cosmologies

We investigate a simple braneworld model in which the universe contains only cold dark matter and a cosmological constant, but the effective dark energy is phantom-like because of extra-dimensional gravity effects. Modified gravity screens the cosmological constant Λ, allowing for a larger Λ. In practice, observations do not favour any significant screening. We use supernova data, the cosmic mi...

HII Galaxies as deep cosmological probes

We re-investigated the use of the Hubble diagram to measure the cosmological constant (Λ) and the mass density of the Universe (ΩM ). We find an important focusing effect in Λ for redshifts about 3. This effect implies that the apparent magnitude of a standard candle at redshifts z=2-3 has almost no dependence on Λ for ΩM > 0.2. This means that ΩM can be measured independently of ΩΛ by targetin...

Determination of Cosmological Parameters

Rapid progress has been made recently toward the measurement of cosmological parameters. Still, there are areas remaining where future progress will be relatively slow and difficult, and where further attention is needed. In this review, the status of measurements of the matter density (Ωm), the vacuum energy density or cosmological constant (ΩΛ), the Hubble constant (H0), and ages of the oldes...

ZKDR Distance, Angular Size and Phantom Cosmology

The influence of mass inhomogeneities on the angular size-redshift test is investigated for a large class of flat cosmological models driven by dark energy plus a cold dark matter component. The results are presented in two steps. First, the mass inhomogeneities are modeled by a generalized Zeldovich-Kantowski-DyerRoeder (ZKDR) distance which is characterized by a smoothness parameter α(z) and ...
